Network Makes Generation Equality Financial Commitment within the Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Compact and Feminist Movements and Leadership Action Coalitions

The Generation Equality Forum taking place from 30 June to 2 July, is a global gathering for gender equality convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France, in partnership with youth and civil society. The Forum represents a key moment for gender equality advocates from every sector of society – governments, civil society, private sector, entrepreneurs, trade unions, artists, academia and social influencers – to drive urgent action and accountability for gender equality.

As part of the Forum, commitments will be made by these various actors to launch a series of concrete, ambitious and transformative actions to achieve immediate and irreversible progress towards gender equality, powered by the Generation Equality Action Coalitions and Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Compact. This has been organized 25 years after the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and 20 years after the landmark UN Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.

Since becoming operational in 2014, the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers has supported individual traditional and faith actors, including women and youth. The promotion of gender equality is a crosscutting principle for the Network and part of its human rights based approach.

The Network acknowledges the overwhelming gap in funding allocated specifically for women, youth and other feminist-led or focused organizations focused on peacemaking and broader peacebuilding processes. In response to this gap and in line with the Generation Equality Forum Action Coalition on Feminist Movements and Leadership, as well as the Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Compact, the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers commits to transforming its funding approach within the next five years to focus specifically on increasing direct and flexible funding and resources for women, youth, and feminist-led and focused organizations by tenfold through integrating new and scaled funds into our ongoing consortia project budgets.  To learn more about how your organization can make a commitment as part of Generation Equality, please visit:  https://commitments.generationequality.org/.
